John E. "Jack" Pollock, Sr.


Born May 3, 1940  •  Went to be with our Lord on Friday, October 23, 2015

John E. Pollock Sr. (Jack), 75 of North Huntingdon went to be with the Lord on Friday Oct. 23 after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Jack was born on May 3, 1940 in McKeesport. He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Larue B. Pollock, a brother Thomas W. Pollock, two sons James C. and Gregory T. Pollock.

He is survived by his loving family, daughter Terri Staph (Garry), sons John Jr (Cathie) and Robert (Lois). Grandchildren Rick Bruce, Andrea Sidun (Dave), Tracy Cratti, Kristina Pollock, Rebecca Devers, Daniel Devers II, Great Grandchildren Paige, Landon, Davanee, Gavin, Dakota, Ashton, Roman, and Kendalyn.

He was self-employed as a gunsmith after retiring from U.S. Steel, Homestead Works. Jack was an avid sportsmen. He enjoyed hunting, shooting and spending time in the outdoors. He was an Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association, and a lifetime member of Police Rod and Gun Club. He was an active member of The Church of Sutersville.

Frances (Higby) Hough


Born Friday, October 25, 1929  •  Went to be with our Lord on Friday, August 14, 2015

Frances Hough, 85, of Sutersville, died Friday, August 14, 2015. She was born October 25, 1929 in Scott Haven, a daughter of the late James and Ada (Hughes) Higby.

Frances was a member of The Church of Sutersville and always enjoyed entertaining her family for dinners on Sundays.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron “Don” Hough and her daughter, Jane Zerone. She is survived by two sons, Aaron Hough and wife, Tricia and Kevin Hough; three grandchildren, Brian Zerone and wife, Nicole, Ashley Zerone and Nathan Hough and wife, Jackie; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Logan and Sarah Rose. 

Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Monday at the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 901 Vine St. West Newton where services will be held 11 am Tuesday. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.

James R. Cole, Sr.


Born February 7, 1949  •  Went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 25, 2015

James R. Cole Sr., age 66, of New Stanton, died Saturday July 25, 2015 in the Veteran’s Hospital, Oakland. He was born February 7, 1949 in Mount Pleasant, a son of the late William R. Sr. and Marjorie E. Frye Cole and was also preceded in death by siblings, Ruth Ann Cole, William R. “Will” Cole Jr., and Lois Wentroble.

Jim was a retired auto body repairman for Fix’s Auto Body, North Huntingdon. He was a proud Marine veteran of the Vietnam War and a life member of Greater Greensburg Marine Corps League, Detachment 834, and the Vietnam Veterans Association.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Ann Wees Cole; children, James R. Cole Jr. and John W. Cole both of Irwin, and Justin K. (Melissa) Karasek of Bristow, VA; a sister, Marjorie Gilmore of Lusby, MD; also sisters and brothers in law, and nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the William Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Frank Rocco and Pastor Tony Collura, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon.

Mary Ann Salvio, 72, of Sutersville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 12, 2015. She was born November 27, 1942, in Sutersville, a daughter of the late Batista and Mary (Dubinshak) Zachetti.

Mary loved her family very much and was a member of The Church of Sutersville.

Surviving are two sons, Robert and wife, Laurie, of Smithton, and Sam and wife, Kim, of Sutersville; three grandsons, Benjamin and Brittany, Salvatore and Bree, and Victor; and a great-granddaughter, Capri. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janine Salvio.

Friends will be received 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at The Church of Sutersville, 1683 Mars Hill Road, Sutersville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Reginald Glen "Russ" Caston


Born November 16, 1934  •  Went to be with our Lord on March 4, 2015

Reginald Glen "Russ" Caston, 80, of McKeesport, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at John J. Kane Regional Nursing Center. He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Coushatta, La., to the late Benjamin Carlton and Leola Holley Caston.

Russ is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Jane Moss Caston; sister, Patsy (William L.) Holmes, of Arcadia, La.; sisters-in-law, Audrey Moss, of McKeesport, and Theresa Dry, of East McKeesport; brother-in-law, James Moss, of Delmont; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by brother, Carl Gene Caston; and sister, Laverne Rae.

Russ was employed as a carpenter in Hayward, Calif., was a member of Local No. 2046 and a member of The Church in Sutersville.

Arrangements have been entrusted to E. C. FINNEY FUNERAL HOME, 35 Monongahela Ave., Glassport, PA 15045. A memorial service will take place at a later date at The Church, presided by Pastor Frank Rocco. Burial will also take place at a later date at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Elizabeth Township. Ruth R. Whitehead


Born October 11, 1930  •  Went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 8, 2015

Ruth R. Whitehead, 84, of North Huntingdon, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015. She was born Oct. 11, 1930, in Wall, a daughter of the late G. Samuel and Celia Andrews Romig.


She attended The Church, in Sutersville. She was a graduate of Pitcairn High School, 1949, and was a veteran, having served in the Air Force. She attended Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, sold real estate for various agencies, was a legal secretary and drove a school bus for the Norwin School District.


She was involved in many activities such as, Republican Committee Woman, Rough Riders Association, Swinging Squares of Irwin and Herold Grange Square Dancers, White Oak Gun Club, Laurel Highlands Coachman and the Winnebago Club. She was involved in many more activities, but her true love was her family.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Larry and Gary; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Whitehead; brothers, Elmer and George Romig; and sister, Dorothy Wigle.


She is survived by her husband, William C. Whitehead; sons, Bruce (Renee), Mark (Suzie) and Rick; daughters, Linda Somerville (Joseph) and Janet Lagalski (fiance Jim Gilbert); grandchildren, Douglas (Vicky) Whitehead, Melanie (Richard) Freese, Adam Whitehead, Michael Whitehead, Samantha Lagalski and fiance, Bill Kane, Ashton Lagalski and fiance, Michael Wertz, Linnea (Drew) Wortmann, Courtney Whitehead, Joseph and Christina Heath; great-grandchildren, Dante, Kylie, Abby, Bryce, Maddox and Riley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
